Welcome back Year 5!

We hope you had a happy and safe few weeks at home and enjoyed spending time with your family.

From now on, you will find your weekly timetable, work tasks and all of the resources you will need in the 'Home-learning' section above. This will be updated every Friday for the following week.

Please continue to keep us informed with everything you get up to at home and send us your videos and photos. We love getting your emails and hearing your news, so please keep them coming! We will be adding updates, your photos and a challenge to the 'Home-learning' page each week as well, so look out for those as well as our video updates on the Year 5 YouTube channel.

We also would love you all to welcome a new face to the year 5 team at Monkston...Miss Everatt! We hope you enjoy the above welcome video from us all!

Autumn 2019 - What a great academic year we are having so far!

The autumn term was full of fun! The children loved taking part in their Bikeability and learnt a lot of important skills and handy tips about how to stay safe on their bikes whilst riding on the roads.

Our autumn DT project was all about seasonal ingredients and the children really enjoyed tasting new fruits and vegetables and then using these as inspiration for their own recipes. We have been told by parents that their final creations were absolutely delicious!

On 6th December, year 5 had a special visitor who came in and created a fantastic Tudor Day experience for them. Not only did they take part in a number of creative activities throughout the day (including making their own soap and candles, sewing, using quills and ink and more!), but they were also part of a magnificent Tudor feast. The head table led the event and there was entertainment and food to share. It was a wonderful day and the children haven't stopped talking about it since!

The spring term is also going to be full of exciting things to look forward to! Already we have had a very successful Science Day where the children experimented to test the suitability of different plates for a picnic and the strength of handles of different bags and were expertly assisted by parents during their investigation.

We have still got so much to look forward to! Check out our dates below to see what else spring has in store for us!

Outdoor PE is now on Monday and indoor PE is on a Thursday. Please continue to ensure that your child has their PE kit in school all week as sessions can change due to unforeseen circumstances. The kit should follow our school uniform policy.

Homework is still coming in very regularly, which is great, thank you or your support with this. Homework still comes home every Tuesday and is due in the following Monday. Continuing with reading at home (both being heard reading AND being read to) is still so important for their comprehension skills. We hope that you can continue to help us to encourage this as much as possible, as it will also improve their creative imagination when writing. Children will receive a Monkston Point if their diary is signed by an adult 3 times in a week - diaries are checked every Monday.
