The Monkston Netball team began their season with an impressive 5-1 win over Giffard Park. Mrs Hamer and Mr Newberry were incredibly proud!

MK Schools Gymnastics Competition 09.03.2020

Monkston took two teams to the gymnastics competition at Kingston this year with lower KS2 competing for the first time. The children thoroughly enjoyed the events and there were a string of super performances too.

MK Dons Girls Football Tournament 02/03/20

This tournament has grown year on year and it was incredible to see Monkston compete against the best 24 schools in Milton Keynes. The girls qualified with a series of strong wins 4-0, 3-1, 2-0 and 2-1. In the final game of the group Monkston drew 1-1 with Willen (several Dons coaches came over to watch this one). In the quarter finals Monkston beat Swanbourne 1-0. The girls fell agonisingly short with a goal conceded in the last few seconds losing 2-1 against Brooklands Farm. Neve, Freiya, Summer and Katie scored some fantastic goals. Naia and Grace were resolute in defence, while Aaliyah was brave and quick off her line in goal. Lily played in almost every position, other than in goal, across the course of the competition. Well done!

Indoor Athletics 27/01/20

In a cauldron of noise, Monkston competed brilliantly against other schools in running, jumping and throwing. Despite some superb individual performances and winning several events, the team were unable to secure enough points to qualify for the finals. Unlucky team!

Swimming attainment 14/01/2020

Well done to Year 5 with 58% achieving the required level for swimming by the end of KS2. We hope you continue to build your water confidence outside of school. There will also be the chance to use it (with life jackets) at the residential in Y6.

EFL Cup Finals 10/01/20

Monkston Y6 footballers went to the MK Finals for the EFL Cup and we’re unable to continue their run despite some super performances. There were fab goals from Thomas and Diego while Lewis, Tife and Harley provided endless energy. Goalkeeper Manraj had a fine game upfront in the final fixture and wing-back Somtoo deputised with a world class save. A special mention must go to Sam who showed great sportsmanship.

EFL Cup 06/12/19

Monkston managed to qualify top of a competitive group in the EFL Cup run by MK Dons. Manraj made some excellent saves, while Somtoo and Sam were resolute in defence. Goals from Tife, Harley, Diego and a rocket from Thomas helped to secure the points needed to qualify. Lewis can now look forward to leading his team into the Milton Keynes Finals on Friday 10th January. We will provide further details when we know them. Well done boys.

MK Cross Country 19/10/19

The children enjoyed another event at MK Bowl. Although they could not retain the Large Schools title from last year, there were 3 incredible top ten finishes and some other excellent individual performances. Well done boys and girls!

BMP Tag Rugby Event 11/10/19

The children in Year 3 had the chance to practise their Tag Rugby skills this Friday in a series of matches against Broughton Manor Prep, Middleton and Brooklands Farm. Cameron, Ethan and Leonard demonstrated their speed, while Alfie and Reuben showed good coordination de-tagging the opposition. Anaya and Elia organised the team brilliantly alongside Lenny-Jay, Barnaby and Jayden who scored superb tries. We had a great afternoon!

Boxing Fit Club 10/10/19

The club has certainly got going now with children practising jabs and hooks. They will even have the chance to try landing on the heavy bag too. Unfortunately, the club will be taking a break on 24/10/19 as the hall has been booked for the MacMillan Coffee Event. The children have been told to stay fit and ready for more boxing work after half term. Mrs Wood has kindly offered to take the club while I am away next week though.

Kents Hill Park Primary School visit 12/07/19

Both 3E and 3J enjoyed a fantastic morning at Kents Hill Park Primary School, which is the newest school in the Kingsbridge Education Trust. The children experienced a range of activities with their contemporaries. There were also football matches and there was a chance to create music. The time flew by and we are hoping to build on these community links next year too.

Athletics Heats and Finals 24/06/19 & 06/07/19

There were some tremendous results in our MK School Athletics events this year. The team secured numerous top ten finishes across both track and field. Many children qualified for the finals and Holly was able to secure a silver medal in 200m. The combined results meant that Monkston also won the Large Schools trophy. Fabulous effort!

Year 5 and 6 Girls MK Dons Tournament football 24/05/19

With Year 6 on their residential, our Year 5 girls were left with the tricky task of competing against the year above at MK Dons Girls Football competition. The girls were unable to qualify from their tough group, losing to the eventual winners and runners up. Their continued improvement and support for other teams was recognised with the 'Be Ambitious' award. Superb effort girls!

Year 3 and 4 Girls MK Dons Tournament football 10/05/19

Our Y3/4 girls went to play in the MK Dons SET Girls Tournament and came away with the 'Inspiration' award thanks to several wins and a glut of goals. Amber and Lily B were tireless in midfield, striking the woodwork several times. Jui showed guile in her passing and was unlucky not to score too. Amirah put in a towering performance in defence and Olivia was great in goal (and on pitch too)! Lola and Bella had never played competitive football before, but showed bravery throughout and improved in every match. Captain Neve put in some spellbinding performances and can be proud of her team! Well done girls!

Year 6 Football - MKSFA Champions League 01/04/2019

Monkston's Year 6 Football Team made their way to Leon School having successfully topped their league. They then qualified from the Champions League group to face local rivals Middleton in the Semi-Final. Unfortunately, Monkston lost a close match 1-0 and agonisingly lost a penalty shoot-out in the Third Place Playoff.  The team (in fact the entire squad) should be enormously proud of their efforts this season.

Year 3 Football - Monkston Community Cup 29/03/2019

Monkston's Year 3 hosted their second Community Cup, inviting Brooklands Farm and Broughton Manor Prep. The team won 6-3 and drew 4-4 in their final game to share the trophy with BMP. Wonderful football was played and super goals were scored throughout a thrilling tournament. Captain Archie was able to present a gift to former pupil Harry who has refereed many past games - he is off to University, so we may need another person to officiate for us next year!

Year 3 Quicksticks competition 15/03/2019

An inexperienced Year 3 team of hockey players took part in a Quicksticks competition at Woughton this week. The team steadily improved as the tournament went on. Amaad was a defensive rock. Cerys, Harry and Laila showed endeavour and skill. Kyle and Savannah scored a number of goals helping the team to a few wins along the way. I was devastated to miss out on this, but Miss Chambers and the parents were very proud!

Gymnastics competition 11/03/2019

Monkston's year 6 gymnasts enjoyed a morning of vaults, floor routines and body management sessions at the MK Gymnastics competition this week. The girls competed brilliantly in all events with fabulous behaviour throughout. Well done!

Swimming attainment 11/03/2019

Well done to Year 5 with 58% achieving the required level for swimming by the end of KS2. We hope you continue to build your water confidence outside of school. We are looking into catch up sessions in 2019/20 to increase that percentage.

Indoor Athletics 28/01/2019

Amongst cauldron of noise at Shenley Brook End sports hall, Monkston competed in a running, jumping and throwing events. Some fine individual performances meant the team achieved third place, but they narrowly missed out a finals place. Great effort!

EFL Cup 25/01/2019

Following qualification from their group in December, Monkston made their way to MK Dons training ground with hopes high. A series of draws and a win helped the team to qualify for the semi-finals. Unfortunately, a last-second penalty denied the team in a 2-1 defeat. Although all the players were disappointed, we were extremely proud of their efforts.

Year 6 Football Club update 23/01/2019

Monkston continued their unbeaten form in the league with a 2-0 win over Abbeys. Goals from Harry and Hudson were supported by strong debut performances from Liam, Ahmad and Phoebe. The win has meant that Monkston top their group and look likely to qualify for the finals later in the year. We will keep everyone posted as soon as we know.

Year 6 Football Club update 05/12/2018

A tremendous start in the first match and an inspired come-back in the second led Monkston to another two wins last night. A penalty save from Owen and a spilt shot from Dillon were highlights in an unusual top-of-the-table clash with Giles Brook. Bohan, alongside debutants Bodhi and Muhammad came on in the second half to add energy and help the team to a 3-2 win.

In the second match, Monkston had to dig deep and show their character. Jake could do little about either goal. After going 2-1 down to a pacey TMA side, the team fought back with two goals from Joe. Harry sealed a 4-2 victory cutting in on his left foot to score a sumptuous drive off the underside of the crossbar.

I'm hoping to see a replay on Match of the Day tonight!

Year 6 Football Club update 21/11/2018

Monkston remain unbeaten after a draw and a win in their latest fixtures. Paulina, Theo, Adi and Devon all played in their first fixtures for the school, acquitting themselves brilliantly. Joe got the goal he deserved from previous performances in a 1-1 draw against Loughton. Oliver, another school debutant, had a great game, but could do nothing to prevent the equaliser from an awkward cross.

The second game against Chestnuts saw some strong defending and two more goals for Joe in a 2-0 win. Dillon was captain this week, and he can rightly feel proud of the results produced by the squad. Well played.

Year 6 Football Club update 07/11/2018

Monkston opened their football season with a tremendous 4-0 win against Caroline Haslett. Goals from Nmesoma, Jack, an own goal and a sensational header from Harry secured the win. Alex and Bohan came on to add stability at the back and help Owen keep a clean sheet. In the second game, Monkston won a hard-fought game against Priory Rise 2-0. Both goals came from captain Hudson, but it was built on defensive grit epitomised by Dillon, Connor and Lewis, who playing his first ever football matches. Special mentions go to Joe, who did everything but score in a fine performance, and Christian, who went in goal following an injury to Owen. Great start!

Year 6 Football Club update 26/10/2018

Year 6 Football Club has begun and the league football fixtures have been released. The children have been given copies to take home and check their availability for fixtures. Please check your emails as children will be invited to play for particular games and consent can be given by email. The club at Monkston will also be cancelled on 7th November, 21st November, 5th December and 23rd January due to the league matches at Woughton.

Cross Country silverware 20/10/2018

The junior and senior cross country team had a fantastic afternoon at the MK Bowl on Saturday 20th October. The weather was kind to us (for once!) and all children in the team performed brilliantly. We were awarded first place in the large schools category, which means we get to hold onto the shield for another year. A huge thank you to all the parents who supported this event and well done to all the children who participated. - Miss Horler

Monkston's Community repairs the field 15/09/2018

A huge thanks to all the volunteers that came to Monkston Primary on Saturday to help repair the cracks on the field, deliver soil and even those who provided drinks and biscuits. I know the children and teachers are very appreciative. With Cross Country starting and Y6 Football on the horizon, a safe place to practise is extremely important.

Premier League Primary Stars Year 3 & 4 Cup 09/07/2018

World Cup fever continues at Monkston this week. A team of Year 3 and 4 boys enjoyed a fun-filled day at Villa Park in Birmingham. There was ‘Fantasy Football’ maths and a work out with team mascots. The football was tremendous fun too with Monkston scoring 8 excellent goals. Well done!

MK Athletics Finals 30/06/2018

The Key Stage 2 athletics team had a very busy week last week, as they competed in the Milton Keynes Outdoor Athletics event on Monday 25th June. All athletes competed well (especially considering the high temperatures) and 19 of our pupils qualified for the finals on Saturday 30th June. A huge well done to all finalists that competed on Saturday and congratulations to Eva for winning gold in the junior girls triple jump, Sarah for winning bronze in the junior girls 75m sprint and the junior girls relay team for winning bronze. A huge success for our Year 4 girls!

Year 2 Football Mentors Team 20/06/2018

The Year 2 'Football Mentors' club played their first ever match against Broughton Manor Prep, which featured a glut of great goals. Many of the Year 6 mentors stayed on to coach and support throughout the game and they were very proud of the effort and endeavour on show.  Well done Year 2!

Monkston's epic day at Stadium MK

MK Dons SET Primary Stars Girls Cup 22/05/2018

What a day! Monkston's Year 3 and 4 girls went to Stadium MK to play in the MK Dons SET Primary Stars Girls Cup and played brilliantly. A series of fabulous performances meant the team left the competition unbeaten, also taking home the 'Inspiration' award for their skills and some wonderful memories.

  • Monkston won their first game 2-1 against Broughton with goals from Neve and Michelle.
  • A fine effort from distance meant Megan scored the winner, 1-0 against Rickley Park.
  • Despite several great efforts, Monkston could not breakdown a formidable Giles Brook defence, ending in a goalless draw. Evie had done a wonderful job in goal in all three games, but then brought her focus outfield.
  • Oxley Park were another great team, but they were undone by a super cross from Michelle and a smart finish from captain Freya. New keeper Sophie made a fine save near the end meaning Monkston came away with another 1-0 win.
  • The final match was watched by everyone and it was thrilling. A lovely finish from Freya put Monkston ahead, but an unfortunate ricochet allowed Long Meadow to equalise. With both teams looking for a winner, Neve cut in from the right and fired a super shot into the net. Resolute defending from Ruby, Cara and Grace meant that the girls would not be denied in their final game. 2-1!
  • While the performances were universally excellent, a special mention has to go to vice-captain Katie who covered every blade of grass and almost scored an audacious volley from the halfway line (search Gus Poyet vs Sunderland for what could've been).

Athletics training and squad 09/05/2018

Training for the athletics team has begun with the competition taking place after school on 18th June at Stantonbury. Training will usually take place on Wednesdays during the school day.

Trials took place meaning all the participants were picked based on their times and distances. Children who have received a letter with "reserve" next to their name will not compete as things stand. However, we pick the team closer to the event so "reserves" should not lose heart as their attitude or improved performances could mean they compete in June.

Gymnastics County Competition 23/04/2018

Monkston’s gymnasts (our ‘Rebel Girls’) went to the County Finals with hopes high. They wore unfamiliar light blue as they represented North MK. Following a series of great performances, the team finished second and took home silver medals. Great work team!

Swimming attainment 28/03/2018

Congratulations to Year 5 who matched the previous year group with 88% of children swimming 25 metres or more. Hopefully all of the children will continue to swim outside of school, further honing their water confidence! We are looking at further sessions to get that number closer to 100%. Watch this space.

Monkston Community Cup 16/03/2018

Following the fantastic community link with Broughton Manor Prep last year and a wonderful football friendly with Broughton Fields, Year 3 decided to host the inaugural Monkston Community Cup this Friday and the matches did not disappoint. The first Semi-final ended 1-0 to Monkston Grasshoppers. The second Semi-final saw Broughton Fields win 3-1 against Monkston Thistles. An end-to-end Plate Final saw no goals in open play. BMP edged out Thistles 2-1 on penalties.  The Cup Final was an epic encounter with Broughton Fields defeating Grasshoppers 4-2 in a treat for football fans. Although some players went away disappointed, we were extremely proud of them all and the old cliché was true – ‘Football’ was the real winner!

Year 6 Reserve Team Football 14/03/2018

The Reserves played a series of thrilling matches against KET friends and rivals - Oakgrove Primary and Middleton. A narrow 1-0 defeat to Middleton was followed by a pulsating draw against Oakgrove. The goals came from captain Mark and Joseph Taylor. It was fun for the children to play against and meet a few children who might become classmates next year. Great effort Year 6!

EFL Cup Southern region 06/03/2018

After a series of 1-0 wins against Oxford, Bristol Rovers and Charlton Athletic, Monkston (MK Dons for the day) qualified from their group in the Southern region finals. In a hugely competitive Semi-Final, Monkston were finally stopped by Southend United, losing 1-0 and coming third. Although the team just missed out on a trip to Wembley, we’re enormously proud of their efforts and their bronze medals.

MK Schools Gymnastics 26/02/2018

Monkston's gymnasts, who have become know as our 'Rebel Girls' this week, secured 3rd place and bronze medals in the MK Schools event. Great performances were demonstrated across the Floor Routine, Body Management and Vault events. We're all very proud!

EFL Cup Regional Finals NEWS UPDATE 09/02/2018

I received an apologetic phone call from MK Dons this afternoon stating that the date for regional finals had been moved to Tuesday 6th March. Whilst this change was mildly inconvenient, it was the Any other information section of the synopsis which brought actual disappointment - only 3 members of staff with each school. A phone call to Oxford United confirmed that no parents would be able to attend.

I've emailed to see if any exceptions can be made as I know people were looking to get time off work. If anything changes, I will let parents know.

Year 3 Football Friendly at Broughton Fields Primary School 02/02/2018

The children who joined the 'Football Mentors' club whilst in Year 2 last year got a chance to try out the kit they designed in a friendly match. A thrilling 3-3 draw was played out with two goals from captain Tommy and an own goal. Musa and Jake went close too. Towering headers and super slide tackles were trademarks of Ellis and Jabir. Lewis offered pace and some great defence-splitting ball passes throughout the game. Grace showed composure at the back and Clement worked hard in his first ever match. Whilst not his favourite position, Oliver was excellent in goal with a string of saves in the second half.

We can't wait to see Broughton Fields back here for our tournament in March!

PE More Able and Motivated Trip 01/02/2018

Twenty children who've shown promise in PE were taken to Oakgrove Secondary School to enjoy the facilities and some high-quality teaching. The children experienced dodgeball, team-building and gymnastics. A fantastic afternoon!

Year 6 Football Update 31/01/2018

Monkston have finished the league season strongly with two wins. A 4-1 against Orchards was followed by a 2-1 win against Caroline Haslett. The team hope to have done enough to make it to the league finals. We will keep you posted.

English Football League Schools Cup 26/01/2018

Monkston returned to Woughton to take on the best schools in Milton Keynes for the next round. As a result of several superb performances, the team qualified top of their group without conceding a goal. In the semi final, William saved a late free kick, stopped a penalty and then scored the winner in the shootout. A scintillating final between Monkston and Middleton ebbed and flowed resulting in a 3-1 win. We go on to Regionals to represent the MK Dons at Oxford United in March. Great work!

Year 5 and 6 Indoor Athletics 23/01/2018

Oakgrove Sports Hall was a cacophony of noise as the Indoor Athletics team competed in a series of events including running, jumping, throwing and relay. The team missed out on finals by just two points, but can hold their heads up high thanks to some wonderful performances on the night. A special mention has to go to the girls who were truly magnificent with one of the Oakgrove PE teachers mentioning how excited she was to work with the girls next year . #thisgirlcan

English Football League Schools Cup 19/01/2018

Despite a high-quality group, Monkston have qualified for the next round of the EFL Cup. Two wins, two draws and a narrow defeat were enough to see the team through. We return for the MK section finals on Friday 26th January.

Upper Key Stage 2 Gymnastics 12/01/2018

Following a pleasing 4th place last year, Monkston will look to improve and aim for an MK Schools Gymnastics medal on 26th February. Class teachers are feeding back next week to help select the 7 squad members. Letters and routine guides will be issued to the children selected in the next two weeks.

Year 6 Football Update 10/01/2018

Monkston continued their run of good results with a draw against top-of-the-league Middleton and a win against Bushfield. With defences on top, Monkston and Middleton played out a high-quality stalemate ending 0-0. In the second match, a confident attacking performance saw just a single goal earn Monkston the win. Well played everyone!

We'll upload the league table when we have it.

Never, never, never give up! Cross Country success has meant a great start to the 2017-18 academic year for Monkston's athletes.
