Hi Hedgehogs and Rabbits class! We hope you had a good Easter break and are ready to get stuck into learning from home!

You will find your weekly timetable and all of the resources you will need in the Home Learning Section. This will be updated every Friday for the following week. We will also be doing a weekly challenge, so have a look at that too! We miss you all and would love to receive any photos of any of the work you do so that we can put it on our weekly challenge photo page - you can see what each other has been doing too! Please email us with photos or any other queries at

Miss Payne, Mrs Shabong and Mrs Owen

Week beginning 30th March: Creative challenge - can you draw a picture of your favourite toy or teddy? Send us your creations!

Hedgehogs and Rabbits, it's 'school', but not as we know it!

In this 'unprecedented time' we are here to help in anyway we can.

Please contact us on  with any questions you have.

We would also love to hear from children and parents to let us know how you are getting on, so please keep in touch.

If you took your 'bean in a bag' home, keep the tissue inside damp and stick it to a window where it gets sunshine - you should start to see some sprouting of roots and shoots soon! Can you draw what it looks like?

If you took your 3 sunflower seeds home in a pot, place them on a sunny window sill and keep them watered - you should see some shoots begin to appear. When around 20-30cm, support with a stick or cane in the pot, and plant out in a sunny spot. Can you take photos of your sunflowers regularly? Can you measure how tall they are regularly?

Welcome to Reception!

Miss Payne is the Hedgehog class teacher and Mrs Owen / Mrs Shabong is the Rabbit class teacher, with Mrs Thompson and Mrs Woodbine as the classroom teaching assistants. Mrs Slater and Mrs Sharpe will also teach at certain times during the week.

Dates for your diaries

In Reception we change our reading books on a Monday and Thursday. To ensure books are changed, we ask that when you read with your child, you sign and date their diaries, so we know when they are due a new book. To begin with children will receive a non-word book, so we provide book marks to encourage the children to understand characters' feelings, to look at the layout and features of books. The children will then move on to word books. Some of the children will bring home spellings, linked with their phonics groups. Please support your child in learning to practise their spellings ready for their test a week later (this will happen later in the school year).

Read, Write Inc. (RWI)

Children learn their sounds through the phonics scheme 'Read, Write Inc' (RWI). Children learn different sounds during the week and how to 'blend' words to read. We would appreciate if you could support your child in using the sound book that will link to the sounds taught in school.

In PE, we ask that the children are as independent as possible, so we ask that you encourage them to dress and undress themselves at home (even if its putting their own shoes and socks on).

Hedgehogs PE:
Indoor PE - Friday
Outdoor PE - Tuesday

Rabbits PE:
Outdoor PE - Thursday

Indoor PE - Tuesday

The children will need a labelled PE bag containing:
Black/Navy shorts (no skirts please)
White T-shirt
Trainers (plimsolls are NOT needed)

Tracksuit bottoms

Jumper / zipped sweatshirt

Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school from Monday to Friday in case of timetable changes.

Also, please could you ensure that school uniform, PE kits (and any item sent into school) is clearly named to help with finding lost property and for children to identify their own belongings (after PE etc). Please note labels named with pen fade in the wash, so will need checking on a regular basis.

Library - Wednesday/Thursday
Children will bring home a library book to share with you, please ensure that they are returned each week, so they can borrow a new book.

Show and Tell - Monday

Show and Tell is on a Monday. We ask that children bring in items of interest that relate to our theme or achievements, such as certificates or trophies. We politely remind you that we do not allow children to bring in toys or anything valuable. Thank you.

A few reminders!

We are a 'no nut' school, so please ensure that any food item you send into school for your child (whether it is a snack or lunch box item) does not contain nuts!

Please ensure children only bring water in their water bottles in the classroom - juice is fine for lunchtime.

Please provide your child with a set of named waterproofs and wellies to be kept in school for outside and messy  activities.

Please ensure that the children have a fresh/dried fruit snack daily. If this is grapes, please cut in half lengthways to avoid a choking hazard.

Thank you for your continuing support.
