At Monkston Primary School, we understand the importance of PE as a subject and endeavour to provide a balanced curriculum that allows children to develop their physical skills and maintain a healthy active lifestyle from reception to year 6. We hope to not only provide children with the physical skills and knowledge needed to participate in sports, but also to ensure children enjoy lessons and continue to keep active when they leave.
As well as leading weekly indoor and outdoor PE lessons, we offer the children additional opportunities to participate in sports in our enriched curriculum, which has been provided through the Sports Premium funding. This includes having an outside specialist coach coming into school and working with all pupils in Key Stage 2. Children who are selected to represent the school in cross country and athletics are then provided with weekly training sessions with the sports coach.
The Sports Premium funding has also allowed us to replace many old pieces of equipment with new, to ensure that teachers can provide the best lessons possible for their class. The following pieces of equipment have been purchased this year: new bikes, scooters and balancing equipment for reception, new mats for Key Stage 1 indoor gymnastics and circuit training equipment, to support year 6 lessons. A large sum of the Sports Premium funding has also gone towards improving the access to our indoor PE cupboard, as previously we could not easily reach some of the equipment. With sliding doors, mats and equipment can now be accessed readily to support teaching and children in upper Key Stage 2 can also set up their own equipment, which we believe is an important skill for them to learn.
Please read the information below which gives further details of our PE and Sport Premium funding and how we allocate it.
