Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

What an amazing spring term we are having!

We have had a jam-packed spring term so far and have had so many fun learning opportunities!

The whole group really enjoyed our recent trips to the Milton Keynes Recycling Centre and learnt a lot about why we recycle and how they can do more at home. They especially loved taking a first hand look around the factory itself and then having a go at sorting their own recycling on a mini conveyor belt. We have been told that many of them now want to work in a recycling factory when they are older! See the link at the bottom of the page for more photos of the trip.

We ABSOLUTELY love science in year 5 and have had the chance to carry out so many fascinating investigations - including which nappy is the best for our Science Day this year! The chemistry units we cover this year are very hands on and the children have loved getting stuck in with inflating rubber gloves by mixing their own potion, testing which carrier bag is the strongest and investigating which substances can cause a nail to rust the quickest. Click the link below to see photos of our recent experiments!

Outdoor PE is still on a Tuesday and indoor PE is on a Monday morning for 5H and Friday afternoon for 5M. We have started gymnastics for our indoor PE this term and the children have been quite skilful at demonstrating great holds and balances. They have also become quite adept at hockey and are looking forward to playing some matches against each other. Please continue to ensure that your child has their PE kit in school all week as sessions can change due to unforeseen circumstances. The kit should follow our school uniform policy.

Homework has still been coming in very regularly and we thank you so much for your support with this! Homework continues to come home every Tuesday and is due in the following Monday. Continuing with reading at home (both being heard reading AND being read to) is still so important for their comprehension skills. We hope that you can continue to help us to encourage this as much as possible, as it will also improve their creative imagination when writing.
