On Friday, instead of taking home the usual reading practise, your child will bring home a 'common exception word' booklet. This is a booklet full of words to read and write. All the words are 'tricky' words that don't follow a familiar phonic pattern. Please practise these words with your children. (As usual, there is no need to return them to class in January). It will benefit your child to become familiar with these words, as they will be assessed on whether they can write these words to gain their writing level and whether they can read these words to gain their reading level.
Thank you very much and a 'Merry Christmas' to you all!
Now that we are fully settled and in the swing of school life, here's an update of the exciting things we have done and will be doing in the future.
In literacy, we have been focusing on traditional stories; describing characters and writing our own stories. We will be starting a poetry unit and completing some Christmas writing too!
In numeracy, we are continuing to learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, which you can practise at home. Currently, the children are learning to tell the time. Any practise at home will be very beneficial. We will also be moving on to working with money.
We have just started a design technology unit on vehicles. The children will be constructing their own vehicle for Santa, due to a terrible break down with his sleigh.
