Welcome to Reception!
Miss Payne is the Hedgehog class teacher and Miss Lomas is the Rabbit class teacher, with Mrs Owen and Mrs Thompson as the classroom teaching assistants. Mrs Watts and Miss Easton are currently covering Miss Lomas's absence.
Dates for your diaries
In Reception we change our reading books on a Monday and Friday. To ensure books are changed, we ask that when you read with your child, you sign and date their diaries, so we know when they are due a new book. To begin with children will receive a non-word book, so we provide book marks to encourage the children to understand characters' feelings, to look at the layout and features of books. The children will then move on to word books. Some of the children will bring home spellings, linked with their phonics groups. Please support your child in learning to practise their spellings ready for their test a week later (this will happen later in the school year).
Read, Write Inc (RWI)
Children learn their sounds through the phonics scheme 'Read, Write Inc' (RWI). Children learn different sounds during the week and how to 'blend' words to read. We would appreciate if you could support your child in using the sound book that will link to the sounds taught in school.
In PE, we ask that the children are as independent as possible, so we ask that you encourage them to dress and undress themselves at home (even if its putting their own shoes and socks on).
Indoor PE - Wednesday
Outdoor PE - Thursday
Outdoor PE - Thursday
Indoor PE - Tuesday
The children will need a labelled PE bag containing:
Black/Navy shorts (no skirts please)
Jumper / zipped sweatshirt
Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school from Monday to Friday in case of timetable changes.
Also, please could you ensure that school uniform, PE kits (and any item sent into school) is clearly named to help with finding lost property and for children to identify their own belongings (after PE etc). Please note labels named with pen fade in the wash, so will need checking on a regular basis.
Library - Wednesday/Thursday
Children will bring home a library book to share with you, please ensure that they are returned each week, so they can borrow a new book.
Show and Tell - Monday
Show and Tell is on a Monday. We ask that children bring in items of interest that relate to our theme or achievements, such as certificates or trophies. We politely remind you that we do not allow children to bring in toys or anything valuable. Thank you.
A few reminders!
We are a 'no nut' school, so please ensure that any food item you send into school for your child (whether it is a snack or lunch box item) does not contain nuts!
Please ensure children only bring water in their water bottles in the classroom - juice is fine for lunchtime.
Please provide your child with a set of named waterproofs and wellies to be kept in school for outside and messy activities.
Please ensure that the children have a fresh/dried fruit snack daily. If this is grapes, please cut in half lengthways to avoid a choking hazard.
Thank you for your continuing support.
